Rumex are annuals, biennials or perennial herbs with basal leaves that produce small flowers which are then followed by reddish-brown fruits. Some species of Rumex are grown for their edible leaves. They are great for a wildflower, cottage and informal planting styles. You should expect to see your Rumex grow to an approximate height and spread of up to 1m (3ft).
Rumex are best planted in a well-drained soil of Chalk, Loam, Sand or Clay, depending on the variety, within an acid, alkaline or neutral PH balance, again depending on the variety. For best results, grow in full sun, but they are happy in partial shade too. They are perfect for growing in containers.
Rumex are a low-maintenance plant but can be more difficult to control due to the amount of seeds they produce. To avoid self-seeding the plants can be cut back after flowering prior to seed setting to prevent the plant from becoming out of control. Water regularly.
Rumex can be propagated by seed at any time of the year.
