Rumex are best planted in a well-drained soil of chalk, loam, sand or clay (depending on the variety) within an acidic, alkaline or neutral PH balance. They are best positioned in an area of sun or part shade. Rumex are well suited to a wildflower, cottage or informal planting style. They are also happy to be grown in containers.

Amend the planting area with compost to enrich the soil and improve drainage.
To avoid self-seeding the plants can be cut back after flowering prior to seed setting to prevent the plant from becoming out of control. Water regularly. Divide in early spring or summer every 3-4 years to maintain the health of your plants.
It is possible to propagate Rumex by seed at any time of the year
