  How to plant

How to plant Roses

If planting where a Rose has previously been grown, remove as much of the old soil as possible and replace with fresh garden compost and plenty of well-rotted organic matter. Bare roots should be planted in the dormant period, but container plants can be planted year-round. The planting hole should be big enough to hold the roots. Before placing your Rose in the planting hold, apply a handful of bone meal and mix in well.

How to care for Roses

Once your Rose is well-established, prune to a third of the original size. Remove any dead, diseased or damaged growth and then reduce the overall size accordingly. Once flowering has finished, you can undertake a light trim. The main pruning season is from later winter to early spring. Feed and mulch Roses in spring. Feed once in March and again in late June to July. If your soil is light and well-drained, apply a monthly feed from March to July. Provide a good soak of water at least once a weed in hot periods.
