Portulaca are best planted in a well-drained soil of loam, chalk or sand within an acidic, alkaline or neutral PH balance. They are best positioned in an area of full sun or part shade. Growing them in Portulaca are well suited to being planted in containers as well as in rock gardens.

Soil may need to be amended with compost or grit before planting to improve its drainage. If you have a clay soil, then growing these plants in containers would be preferable.
Drought and heat tolerant. Water lightly only when the top of the soil is dry. Do not allow the soil to become soggy as these plants will rot. Deadheading will encourage further flowering.
