Orlaya are best planted in a well-drained soil of sand, chalk or loam within an acidic, alkaline or neutral PH balance. They are best positioned in an area that receives full sun. Orlaya are well suited to flower beds and borders within a cottage, informal or wildflower meadow or alternatively as unique and intriguing cut flowers.

In early spring, dig a hole as deep and twice as wide as the root ball, spacing each plant around 45cm (18in) apart. Water thoroughly and deeply to settle the soil into place after planting.
Orlaya do not need pruning but you can deadhead or cut back your plants after the flowering period if they require. Feed with a liquid fertiliser on a fortnightly basis during active growth and collect the seed to sow for the following year. Water well when the soil is dry to the touch, reducing this watering schedule in winter.
It is possible to propagate Orlaya by seed in spring if you wish for summer and autumn flowering plants, or during autumn for early flowering plants.
