About Orlaya

Orlaya are attractive annuals with dissected, lacy white blooms that are displayed upon slender stems and fern-like foliage, closely resembling lace-cap hydrangeas. They appear throughout the summer and often into autumn when the first frosts hit. Orlaya are best suited to flower beds and borders within a cottage, informal or wildflower meadow or alternatively as unique and intriguing cut flowers. You should expect to see Orlaya grow to an approximate height and spread of 60cm (24”).

How to plant Orlaya

Orlaya are best planted in well-drained soil of sand, chalk or loam within an acidic, alkaline or neutral PH balance. During early spring, dig a hole as deep and twice as wide as the root ball, spacing each plant approximately 45cm (1.5’) apart. Water thoroughly and deeply to settle the soil in place and to encourage a healthy root system. Orlaya are best positioned in an area of full sun where they will thrive to optimum effect.

How to care for Orlaya

Orlaya do not require pruning but you can deadhead or cut back your plants after the flowering period if you require it. Feed with a liquid fertiliser on a fortnightly basis during active growth and collect the seed to sow for the following year. Water well when the soil is dry to the touch, reducing any watering schedule during the winter.

How to propagate Orlaya

It is possible to propagate Orlaya by seed during the spring if you wish for summer and autumn flowering plants or during the autumn for early flowering plants.
