You may wish to amend the planting area with compost or grit to improve drainage. Plant Origanum around 20-25cm (8-10in) apart from one another so that they have room to grow. If planting in a container, the pot should be around 30cm (12in) in diameter.
Cut back old, flowered stems in early spring to keep the plants compact and to stop them from becoming leggy. Be careful not to overwater these plants as the roots may rot if you do this. Water when the soil is dry to the touch.
It is possible to propagate Origanum by seed or division in autumn or spring.
