Onoclea are best planted in a moist oil of clay, loam or sand within an acidic or neutral PH balance. They are best positioned in an area of part or full shade. Onoclea are well suited to shady borders and beds or to use as underplanting in woodland and naturalistic style gardens. They also work well planting at a pondside.

Onoclea have a spreading habit, so allow enough room when planting for the plant to grow.
Remove dead or damaged fronds as needed, Onoclea are low maintenance and are generally disease and pest free. Do not allow the soil to dry out.
It is possible to propagate Onoclea by sowing spores as soon as ripe, or by division in spring.
