Nepeta are best planted in a well-drained soil of clay, chalk or loam within an acidic, alkaline or neutral PH balance. They are best positioned in an area of full sun or part shade. Nepeta are well suited to flower beds and borders or used as under planting for roses and shrubs within a cottage, informal or wildlife garden setting.

The best time to plant Nepeta is in spring, ensuring you leave at least 30cm (12in) of space between your plants as they require plentiful room to spread and grow effectively.
Keep plants consistently watered until they are well established. Deadhead any spent flowers on a regular basis as this will encourage further flowering and cut back hard in spring to promote healthier and more prosperous growth.
It is possible to propagate Nepeta by division in spring or autumn. Alternatively, propagate by softwood cuttings in early summer.
