About Nemesia

Nemesia are annuals, perennials or sub shrubs that display mounds of evergreen foliage and clusters of compact blooms throughout summer into autumn. They look highly attractive amongst other blooms in your flower beds and borders within courtyard, cottage and informal garden settings. They will also make a fine addition to pots and containers. You should expect to see Nemesia grow to an approximate height of 30cm (12”) and a spread of 45-60cm (18-24”).

How to plant Nemesia

Nemesia are best planted in moist, well-drained soil of loam or sand within an acidic, neutral or alkaline PH balance. They are happiest when in a position of full sun as this will promote profuse blooms, but in hotter climates they will thrive equally in part shade. Amend the planting area with a generous amount of organic matter and mix thoroughly to the native soil to improve overall drainage, as Nemesia are intolerant to waterlogging.

How to care for Nemesia

Once established, Nemesia need little care, although they will require a deep and thorough watering to keep the soil moist throughout active growth. It is advised that you pinch out the growing tips as this will produce a much bushier plant. Nemesia will benefit from a slow release fertiliser, applying only once throughout active growth.

How to propagate Nemesia

It is possible to propagate Nemesia by softwood cuttings in the spring or summer.
