About Nasturtium

Nasturtium are annuals or perennial plants that are both versatile and attractive to grow. Most varieties showcase simple and often ivy-like foliage with unique, showy flowers that are available in a variety of vivacious colours. They are best suited to flower beds and borders within courtyard, coastal, cottage and informal garden settings. They will also make fantastic container plants. You should expect to see Nasturtium grow to an approximate height of 30cm (12”) and a spread of 60cm (24”).

How to plant Nasturtium

Nasturtium are best planted in moist, well-drained soil of loam, clay and sand within an acidic, alkaline or neutral PH balance. Avoid planting Nasturtium in areas that have been heavily amended with organic matter as this will affect the flowering quality. They are best positioned in a sheltered area of full sun where they can take refuge from intense and high summer temperatures.

How to care for Nasturtium

Water Nasturtium regularly throughout active growth, taking care not to overwater as this will cause the roots to rot. Deadhead spent flowers to encourage a further profusion of flowering. These plants should not require any fertilisation as it can cause detriment to the volume of flowers that are produced.

How to propagate Nasturtium

It is possible to propagate Nasturtium by seed which can be collected towards the end of the growing season.
