Molinia are deciduous perennial grasses with flat leaves and upright stems that product flowering panicles during the summer. They are well-suited to planting in border and beds. Molinia is more commonly known as moor grass as they are native to damp moorland in Europe, Asia and northern Africa. You should expect to see your Molinia grow to an approximate height of up to 1.5m (5ft) and an approximate spread of up to 50cm (20in), depending on the variety.
Molinia are best suited to be planted in a moist but well-drained soil of loam, chalk, sand or clay within an acidic or neutral PH balance. They are best positioned in a sheltered or exposed position in full sun or partial shade.
Remove dead foliage and old flowered stems in the spring. Molinias tend to resent being disturbed.
It is possible to propagate Molinia by seed sown in pots in a cold frame in spring of by division in the spring.
