Lomatia are evergreen shrubs and trees with deeply divided leaves and tubular flowers that open into star-shaped blooms in summer. It is well-suited to planting in borders and beds and works well in a cottage or informal style garden. You should expect to see your Lomatia grow to an approximate height of up to 8m (26ft) and an approximate spread of up to 4m (13ft), depending on the variety.
Lomatia are best planted in a well-drained soil of sand or loam within an acidic or neutral PH balance. They are best positioned in an area of full sun or partial shade.
Shelter from cold winds. RHS Pruning Group 1- No routine pruning necessary. Remove diseased, damaged, congested or crossing shoots in late winter or early spring. Shoots that are growing in unwanted directions can also be pruned out. After pruning, mulch and feed.
It is possible to propagate Lomatia by taking softwood cuttings in early summer or semi-ripe cuttings in midsummer.
