Laburnum are compact deciduous trees with dark green leaves and thick dark branches. A cluster of bright yellow pea-shaped flowers contrast perfectly to create a delicate arch of perfumed perfection. They are best suited within a low maintenance garden. You should expect to see Laburnum grow to an approximate height and spread of 4-8m (13-26’). PLEASE NOTE: All parts of this plant are toxic and must not be ingested.
Laburnum are best planted in well-drained soil of chalk, clay, sand and loam within an acidic, alkaline and neutral PH balance between September and March. Choose a site that will cater for the sufficient growth of your plant at its mature size, avoiding buildings, features and similar companion specimens. Dig a hole twice the width and depth of existing roots. For the best outcome, Laburnum are best positioned to an area of full sun and part shade.
Laburnum are unlikely to require any pruning but if you would like to neaten its overall appearance, it is recommended to undertake this in July. There is no requirement to feed Laburnum and you should only need to water your tree during conditions of extreme drought.
