Juncus are best planted in a consistently moist, poorly drained soil of clay or loam within an acidic PH balance. They are suitable for growing in shallow water at the edge of a pond or stream. They are best positioned in an area that receives full sun or part shade.

Plant in water of up to 10cm (4in) deep. If you wish to control the spread of this plant, then plant in an aquatic container.
Remove dead foliage and old flowered stems in spring.
It is possible to propagate Juncus by division from mid-spring to early summer.
