Itea are best planted in a moist but well-drained, moderately fertile soil of clay, loam, chalk or sand (depending on the variety) within a neutral to slightly acidic PH balance. They are best positioned in an area of full sun or part shade. Itea are well suited to being planted in borders.

Itea like a moderately fertile, humus-rich soil, so amend the soil with some compost before planting.
Water regularly whilst the plants are getting established. When they are mature, watering should be reduced to about once a week as they become more tolerant of drought once established. Prune after flowering, cutting back to strong buds.
It is possible to propagate Itea by seed or semi-hardwood cuttings.
