Iris are best planted in a fertile, well-drained soil of sand, chalk or loam within an alkaline or neutral PH balance. They are best positioned in an area that receives full sun. Iris are well suited to flower beds and borders, banks and slopes within a courtyard, coastal and informal garden as well as pots and containers. They also make fantastic cut flowers.

Plant Iris 10cm (4in) deep, spacing companion plants around 7cm (3in) apart from one another. Water thoroughly after planting.
Once the flowering period has ended, leave the foliage in place as the remaining leaves will gather sunlight to create a vital food source to strengthen the plants in the future. Foliage may be removed during their dormant period.
It is possible to propagate Iris by division in summer and autumn- these should be located immediately into their final flowering position for them to thrive to optimum effect.
