Where to plant Iresine

Iresine are best planted in a well-drained soil of loam, chalk, clay or sand within an acidic, alkaline or neutral PH balance. They are best positioned in an area that receives full sun. Iresine are well suited to being planted in containers, as they are tender plants, so that they can easily be transplanted when frost is imminent.

Amend heavy soils with a generous amount or organic matter and mix thoroughly to improve drainage and growing conditions. Plant out once all signs of frost have passed. Dig a hole that is the same depth and twice the wide of your plants, spreading the roots out before settling into place. Space companion plants 60cm (24in) apart to allow room for plants to spread as they mature. Water thoroughly and deeply after planting.
