Heavy soils can be amended with organic matter to improve drainage. Dig a hole that is the same depth and twice the width of your plants, spreading the roots out before settling into place. Space plants with enough room for each to grow to their mature spread. Water thoroughly and deeply after planting.
Ipomoea will need protection from cold temperatures so transplant to an appropriate environment such as a greenhouse or conservatory. Keep soil moist and water when required, especially during periods of drought. Mulch around the base of your plants to suppress weeds and to retain moisture levels. Provide support in the form of a trellis or fence as the plants progress to their mature height.
It is possible to propagate Ipomoea by seed.
