About Ipheion

Ipheion are small bulbous perennials with onion-scented foliage and sweet honey-scented star-shaped flowers that bloom in late winter and spring. They are well-suited to planting in containers, borders and beds and beneath trees. They can also be naturalised on a lawn. You should expect to see your Ipheion grow to an approximate height of up to 10-50cm (4-20in), depending on the variety.

How to plant Ipheion

Ipheion are best planted in a moist but well-drained fertile soil of sand, loam, chalk or clay (this differs depending on the variety) within an acidic, alkaline or neutral PH balance. They are best planted in a position of full sun.

How to care for Ipheion

If temperatures drop below -10C, provide a protective winter mulch. Divide in summer once established which should be done after the foliage has died down.

How to propagate Ipheion

It is possible to propagate Ipheion by seed sown in containers in a cold frame as soon as ripe or in spring. Can also be propagated by division in summer when dormant.
