Sit an appropriate area that will accommodate the mature size of your shrubs, digging a hole that is the same depth and twice the width of the root ball. Once planted water deeply and thoroughly to settle the soil into place.
Prune annually in autumn which will shape your shrub/tree to a desired structure. Water carefully during the first year of growth, making sure the soil is kept moist but not overwatered. Protect any new growth from wildlife such as rabbits and deer.
It is possible to propagate Ilex by seed or by semi-hardwood cuttings.
