Hymenocallis are best planted in a well-drained soil. They are best positioned in an area of full sun or part shade that is somewhat sheltered from winds. Hymenocallis are well suited to tropical style gardens, in borders, pots and containers.

You may wish to improve the planting area with compost or grit to improve the soils drainage. Planting in pots is a good choice if you live in the UK so that you can move them inside when temperatures drop, as these plants are tender so will not survive cold conditions. Plant the bulbs so that the tip is just above soil level. Water after planting.
Water regularly in periods of drought in spring and summer. These plants will need to be kept frost-free and brought inside when temperatures drop, as they will not survive temperatures any lower than 5°C.
It is possible to propagate Hymenocallis by division.
