Hoheria are evergreen or deciduous shrubs or small trees with modest, lance-shaped foliage and gorgeous clusters of fragrant white flowers with prominent stamens. They are best suited to flower beds or borders within a cottage, courtyard or informal garden. You can expect to see Hoheria grow to an approximate height and spread of 1.5-2.5m (5-8’).
Hoheria are best planted in moist, well-drained soil of chalk, loam or sand within an alkaline or neutral PH balance, thriving in a position of full sun or part shade. Hoheria prefer slightly damp soil so coastal regions are ideal for this plant. However, they will need to be sited in a location with protection from adverse conditions to protect their foliage from wind damage. At the time of planting provide a generous layer of mulch to the base of your plant. After planting water thoroughly to settle into place.
Ensure adequate protection is provided to your plants in adverse conditions, especially wind. Provide the roots with a thick winter mulch of bark or well-rotten leaves. Water well during periods of drought. Pruning is often unnecessary unless damage has occurred after a harsh winter.
