They are highly attractive within flower beds and borders within courtyard, cottage and informal garden settings. You should expect to see your shrubs grow to an approximate height of 4.5m (15’) and a spread of 2.4m (8’), flowering in abundance from late summer and autumn, dependant on variety.

How to plant Heptacodium

Heptacodium are best planted in well-drained soil of sand, clay, chalk or loam within an acidic, alkaline or neutral PH balance. At the time of planting, you should amend the native soil with plenty of organic matter to improve drainage and overall growing conditions. Mix thoroughly and position your Heptacodium into place, watering thoroughly and deeply. Heptacodium are best positioned in an area of full sun or part shade with shelter from cold and exposed winds.

How to care for Heptacodium

Heptacodium are easy to look after and maintain, needing little care when they are fully established. Pruning should only be required to neaten the overall appearance of your shrub. Remove old, dead or diseased foliage during the spring and tidy to a desired shape and size. You may also wish to apply a layer of compost or organic fertiliser during the spring to encourage healthy growth and development.

How to propagate Heptacodium

It is possible to propagate Heptacodium by seed sown under glass as soon as they are ripe. Alternatively, you may wish to take seed during the spring or semi-ripe cuttings during mid-summer.
