Grevillea are evergreen shrubs or trees, native to South East Australia. Simple yet stunning knitting-needle-like foliage make an intriguing impact, sitting neatly below clusters of unusually shaped petal-less, spidery blooms throughout the winter. Grevillea are best suited in flower beds and borders within courtyard and coastal gardens. You should expect these plants to grow up to a height of 1.5m (60”) and a spread of 90cm (36”).
Grevillea are best planted in well-drained soil of loam or sand within an acidic or neutral PH balance. They will thrive best when positioned in areas of full sun and will need to be placed in a suitable position that will accommodate their mature size. Dig a hole that is the same depth and double the width of the root ball and gently place Grevillea into the planting area. Back fill with native soil and water thoroughly and deeply.
Grevillea will need regular watering as they establish, but will need little care as they reach maturity. Mulch the base of your plant in the summer to retain moisture levels and replace with a fresh layer of compost from autumn through to spring. Prune back your plant after the flowering period to promote healthy growth for the following season.
