Ginkgo are best planted in a well-drained soil of chalk, clay, sand or loam within an acidic, alkaline or neutral PH balance. They are best positioned in an area that receives full sun. Ginkgo are well suited to a range of different gardens, although they can grow to be quite large, so it is important to keep this in mind. Ginkgo are tolerant of pollution, so they also are a great choice for urban locations.

Amend the soil with compost before planting your Ginkgo which will help provide the plant with nutrients and will improve the soils drainage. Water well after planting.
It is recommended to stake your tree, keeping it secure with a tree tie for the first 5 years. Ginkgo are fairly drought tolerant once they are established but for the first few years, they will require regular watering to keep the soil moist, being careful not to waterlog the soil. Young plants might benefit from a tree fertiliser in the spring, but with mature plants this is not necessary.
It is possible to propagate Ginkgo by seed or semi-hardwood cuttings.
