Geum are rhizomatous perennials that fashion delicate clusters of large, blousy blooms that are held upon tall, stately stems and lobed lush green foliage. Geum plants are best suited to flower beds and borders within cottage and informal garden settings. You should expect to see Geum grow to an approximate height of 90cm (36”) and a spread of 50cm (20”).
Geum are best planted in moist, well-drained soil of sand, loam or chalk within an acidic, alkaline or neutral PH balance. Dig a hole as big as the root ball, providing sufficient space for mature growth and back fill it with native soil to provide a firm base for growth. They are best positioned in a sunny area, although will appreciate being kept sheltered in hot climates to prevent foliage and petals from being scorched.
Geum should be deadheaded regularly to ensure healthy growth for the following season. Once the flowering period is over, it is also recommended that you cut back your plant to ground level to rejuvenate and encourage new foliage. At the start of spring you may wish to feed your plants with a balanced fertiliser when growth begins.
