About Galanthus

Galanthus are more commonly known as ‘Snowdrops’. They are dwarf bulbous perennial plants with strap-shaped leaves and sweetly scented nodding flowers that arch into droplets (hence the more commonly known term). These plants are perfect against banks, slopes, flower beds, borders and for naturalising under taller companion plants. You should expect to see Galanthus grow to an approximate height of 12.5cm (5”).

How to plant Galanthus

Galanthus are best planted in moist, well-drained soil of sand, clay, chalk or loam within an acidic, alkaline or neutral PH balance. They are best positioned in a sheltered area of full sun although part shade is equally tolerable. At the time of planting, loosen the soil with a fork and supplement the soil with a generous amount of compost or dried manure alongside a granular fertiliser. Mix with the native soil thoroughly and water well as this will promote healthy growth and development.

How to care for Galanthus

Galanthus are incredibly low maintenance and therefore little is required in terms of care as they mature. Water thoroughly until they are well-established and remove weeds as they appear.

How to propagate Galanthus

It is possible to propagate Galanthus by division as soon as the foliage dies back.
