Fritillaria are best planted in a moist but well-drained soil of chalk, clay, sand or loam within an acidic, alkaline or neutral PH balance. They are best positioned in an area of full sun or part shade. Fritillaria are well suited to flower beds and borders within cottage and informal garden settings.

Amend the planting area with grit and a little compost to improve drainage and promote healthy growth. Plant Fritillaria around 15-20cm (6-8in) deep as equal intervals, ensuring you consider its mature spread.
Water regularly during active growth. This watering regime can then be reduced as the plants enter dormancy. Once the flowering period ends and the leaves die off you may wish to cut stems back to ground level. Apply an extensive, heavy mulch in winter and replace with a top dressing of compost in spring.
It is possible to propagate Fritillaria by seed down in pots in autumn. It is vital that you expose your plants to the cold weather in winter as this will encourage germination in spring. Alternative, you can propagate by offsets in late summer.
