Filipendula are best planted in a fertile, humus rich and moist but well-drained soil of clay or loam within a neutral, acidic or alkaline PH balance. They are best positioned in an area of full sun or part shade. Filipendula are well suited to flower beds and borders within a cottage, informal or wildflower garden.

Choose an appropriate site that will accommodate the mature size of your plant and dig a hole that matches the depth and width of your roots. Back fill with native soil and water thoroughly. You may wish to apply a layer of mulch consisting of animal manure to retain moisture levels and to suppress weeds.
If your plant is positioned in an exposed area, the stems may require some staking for support. Ensure that the soil is kept moist especially during dry periods of weather. You may wish to cut back the plants severely during late summer to keep a pleasing appearance.
It is possible to propagate Filipendula by division in autumn. These plants tend to spread at a rapid rate and division will help to control invasiveness.
