Ficus are best planted in a well-drained soil of sand, chalk or loam within a neutral to alkaline PH balance. They are best positioned in a sheltered area that receives full sun, ideally against a warm wall and keep the roots restricted as this will keep the size of the tree small whilst encouraging more fruits. They can also be grown in containers so long as they have good drainage.

Plant deep in a well-draining soil. If growing in the ground, restrict roots using wooden shuttering or paving slabs placed under ground.
Whilst these plants are hardy, you may wish to protect them in winter with some thick fleece. If growing in a container, cut out any dead stems or weak branches in March.
