About Fabiana

Fabiana are evergreen shrubs with finite silvery-green, needle-like foliage and uniquely formed tubular flowers. They are a member of the tomato family and display a remarkable mixture of colour and in some varieties, fragrance, throughout the summer months, leaving stunning foliage for winter interest. They look particularly attractive within flower beds and borders within rock gardens. You should expect to see Fabiana grow to an approximate height and spread of 1.5m (5’).

How to plant Fabiana

Fabiana are best planted in well-drained soil of sand, chalk or loam within an acidic or neutral PH balance. It requires a sheltered spot in a position of full sun, avoiding shady and cold, wet areas. Dig a hole that is the same depth and twice the width of the root ball allowing plenty of space to grow effectively. Water thoroughly and deeply to settle the soil in place and to encourage healthy root development.

How to care for Fabiana

During spring, you may wish to trim unkempt growth as this will retain a healthy shape and size. Fabiana are relatively drought tolerant once established, although they will require a thorough watering regime during extreme periods of dry weather.

How to propagate Fabiana

It is possible to propagate Fabiana by seed sown in containers within a cold frame during spring. Alternatively, you may wish to propagate by semi-hardwood cuttings during summer.
