Aspect: Sun or part shade
Escallonia are best planted in a well-drained soil of sand, clay, chalk and loam within an acidic, alkaline or neutral PH balance. They are best positioned in an area of full sun or part shade with protection from adverse weather conditions. They are best suited to flower beds and borders within a coastal, cottage and informal garden setting.

Amend the planting area with a generous amount of organic matter and mix thoroughly. Dig a hole that is the same depth and twice the width of the root ball, spacing companion plants close together to form an attractive hedging feature. Water thoroughly after planting.
Escallonia do not require pruning but you may wish to remove old, dead or diseased foliage to retain a healthy appearance. You may also provide a light trim once the flowers have gone over to control its overall size and shape. Water thoroughly during active growth and throughout periods of drought.
It is possible to propagate Escallonia by softwood cuttings during early summer, semi-hardwood cuttings during late summer or hardwood cuttings from late autumn to winter.
