Dodecatheon are herbaceous perennials that are summer dormant. Neat rosettes of lush green foliage act as plinth for slender umbels of cyclamen-like blooms that flourish during the spring. They are best suited in flower beds and borders or used as underplanting of shrubs and small trees within a cottage, informal or rock garden. You can expect to see Dodecatheon grow to an approximate height and spread of 10-50cm (4-20”).
Dodecatheon are best planted in moist soil of loam, chalk, clay or sand within an acidic, alkaline or neutral PH balance, thriving in a position of full sun or part shade. Site in an area close to moisture such as a water feature or pond. Dig a hole that is as wide and deep as the root ball and water thoroughly to settle in place.
Dodecatheon are low maintenance and easy to care for. Apply a thick layer of mulch every spring to keep the soil moist and to suppress weeds. Keep the soil moist, especially during periods of dry weather.
