Cymbalaria are low growing, ground hugging perennials with flat, glossy leaves and stunning two-lipped flowers, displayed in varying shades of purple with a yellow centre throughout summer. They are best suited in wall side borders within informal and wildlife gardens. You should expect to see Cymbalaria grow to an approximate height of 10cm (4”) and a spread of 50cm (20”).
Cymbalaria are best planted in well-drained soil of sand, chalk and loam within an acidic, alkaline or neutral PH balance. Prepare the existing soil by amending with organic matter. This will improve the drainage, whilst suppressing weeds and keeping the soil cool. Dig a hole that is twice as large as the root ball and at an appropriate depth. Water well after planting to settle the soil in place.
Cymbalaria should be watered regularly throughout active growth as this will enhance its overall performance. Deadhead plants before they have a chance to set seed unless you wish for them to do so. Cut plants back to encourage further growth for the following year.
