Curcuma are best planted in a moist but well-drained soil of chalk, clay, loam or sand within an acidic, alkaline or neutral PH balance. They are best positioned in a sheltered area of full sun or part shade. Curcuma are well suited to tropical style gardens, in flower borders and beds as well as pots and containers.

Amend the planting area with compost before planting to add nutrients and to improve the soils drainage. Water well after planting.
Water well during the flowering season, keeping the soil moist but be careful not to waterlog as this will rot the tubers. Apply a general-purpose fertiliser during spring and summer. Bring tubers inside in autumn as they are not hardy plants and store in a cool, dry place.
It is possible to propagate Curcuma by division or by seed.
