Cuphea are best planted in a well-drained soil of loam, chalk and sand within a neutral, acidic or alkaline PH balance. They are best positioned in an area of sun or part shade. They are best suited to flower beds and borders within a courtyard or informal garden setting.

Amend heavy soil with a generous amount of organic matter to improve drainage and nourish the planting area. Dig a hole that is the same depth and twice the width of your plant, spreading the roots out before settling into place. Space companion plants 45-60cm (18-24in) apart to allow room for plant to spread as they mature. Water thoroughly and deeply after planting.
Water regularly throughout active growth and during periods of drought, reducing the required volume during winter. They will benefit from a phosphorus-based fertiliser during spring to promote strong and healthy root development. Deadhead spent blooms to encourage a second flush of lowers during the season.
It is possible to propagate Cuphea by seed.
