Crinodendron are evergreen shrubs or small trees that are native to Chile. Textured and leathery green leaves sit beneath urn-shaped fleshy flowers that hang over the foliage like lightbulbs. Colour radiates from these shrubs during late spring and will last throughout the entirety of summer. Crinodendron are best suited to wall side borders within city and courtyard gardens. They will grow to an approximate height and spread of 3m (10’).
Crinodendron will grow best in moist, well-drained soil of loam, clay and sand within an acidic PH balance. Dig a hole that is a spades depth where you should mix a generous helping of organic material. Do not plant your shrub whilst in its pot as this will restrict growth – put it straight into the ground so that the root ball is level with the soil. Water thoroughly when first planted, keeping to a regular watering schedule throughout the summer season. Crinodendron should be planted in a position of full sun or part shade to encourage healthy growth and development.
Crinodendron will need feeding during early spring with a balanced feed, ensuring this does not encounter the stems or leaves. You may apply more feed throughout the growing season if the foliage starts to yellow. Water your plant regularly and thoroughly until it is well established or during periods of drought.
