About Crambe

Crambe are annuals or perennials. They have large leaves and produce racemes of large panicles of flowers in the summer. They are native to Europe, Turkey, Asia and Africa in a range of different environments. Crambe are best suited to informal and wildflower garden styles and are happy in beds and borders. Great for coastal planting. You should expect to see your Crambe grow to an approximate height of up to 2m (6ft), and an approximate spread of up to 1.5m (5ft), depending on the variety.

How to plant Crambe

Crambe are best planted in a well-drained soil of loam, chalk or sand within an acidic, neutral of alkaline PH balance. Crambe maritima will tolerate a clay soil. They are best suited to a sheltered position in sun or partial shade.

How to care for Crambe

Cut down to ground level in the autumn. Provide shelter from strong winds.

How to propagate Crambe

It is possible to propagate Crambe by seed sown in pots in a cold frame in the spring or autumn, or by division in early spring, or by taking root cuttings in the winter.
