About Corydalis

Corydalis are low growing annuals, biennials or tuberous perennials with slender stems and small clumps of lush-green foliage. Tubular flowers form showy clustered sprays that neatly decorate the foliage throughout spring. They are best planted in flower beds and borders within cottage, informal and wildflower gardens. You should expect to see Corydalis grow to an approximate height and spread of 15-50cm (6-20”) dependant on variety.

How to plant Corydalis

Corydalis are best planted in moist, well-drained soil of sand, clay, chalk and loam within an acidic, alkaline or neutral PH balance. Amend the planting area with plenty of organic matter to improve the drainage and overall growing conditions of your plant as wet soils can be fatal. Plant during the autumn at the same depth and width as the root ball, watering thoroughly to settle into place. They are best positioned in a site of part shade where they have protection from intense sunshine.

How to care for Corydalis

Under the right conditions, Corydalis will require very little care and attention. You may wish to deadhead spent blooms to prevent them from self-sowing which will also prolong the flowering period. Other than this, no pruning is required. Water well during active growth ensuring that the roots are not sitting in standing water.

How to propagate Corydalis

It is possible to propagate Corydalis by seed sown in containers or by division during the autumn.
