Coreopsis are annual or perennial plants renowned for their simple, yet delicate daisy-like flowers, long stalks and lush, bushy foliage. Petal colours include red, white, yellow and pink, many with striking dark brown or maroon centres, creating a fantastic contrast in colour. They are a low maintenance plant that grows with ease, best suited to flower beds and borders, also making an excellent cut or container flower. You should expect to see Coreopsis grow to an approximate height and spread of 45cm-60cm (18”-24”).
Coreopsis are best planted in well-drained soil of loam, chalk and sand within an acidic, alkaline or neutral PH balance. Amend the planting area with a generous amount of compost to improve drainage and overall growing conditions. Dig a hole to accommodate the overall depth and width of your plant, keeping the roots below the level of the soil and water thoroughly. Coreopsis are best positioned in a sheltered area of full sun or part shade.
Apply a generous layer of mulch during the colder months to preserve moisture levels and to protect the roots from frost. Coreopsis are relatively drought tolerant, however they should still be watered during sustained periods of drought. Deadhead to prolong flowering and prune back the stems during autumn so they are just above the soil level.
