Chamaecyparis are best planted in a moist but well-drained soil of sand, chalk, clay or loam within an acidic or neutral PH balance. They are best positioned in an area that receives full sun.

Make a hole in the soil big enough for the root ball. Insert the plant into the hole and press the soil firmly around the roots, just covering the root ball. Water thoroughly after planting.
Water regularly, particularly during periods of drought. Drought tolerant once established. Fertilise a year after planting with a balanced fertiliser and every 1-2 years thereafter.
It is possible to propagate Chamaecyparis by grafting and semi-hardwood cuttings.
