About Brunfelsia

Brunfelsia are evergreen shrubs or small trees with stunning emerald green, simple leaves with bright, showy and salver-shaped flowers – these are often fragrant. They are commonly known as yesterday-today-and-tomorrow. They are best suited as patio and container plants as they can be moved during the colder months. You should expect to see Brunfelsia grow to an approximate height of 2.5m (8’) and a spread of 1.5m (5’). Please take care when handling Brunfelsia, as the plants are highly toxic if ingested into your system.

How to plant Brunfelsia

Brunfelsia are best planted in moist, well-drained soil of chalk, clay, sand and loam within an acidic, alkaline and neutral PH balance. Amend the planting area with plenty of compost and mix well. It may be beneficial to mulch with moss to retain moisture and prevent weeds. Brunfelsia are best positioned in an area of full sun but will need protection from periods of extreme hot weather.

How to care for Brunfelsia

Ensure to keep the soil moist to keep the roots cool and to prevent your plants from drying out. It is possible to pinch growing tips as this will ensure a healthier, bushier growth.

How to propagate Brunfelsia

It is possible to propagate Brunfelsia by softwood cuttings.
