Where to plant Borage

 

Borage is best planted in a well-drained soil of clay, chalk, sand, or loam within an alkaline, neutral, or acidic pH balance. It is best planted in a position of full sun or part shade. Borage is suited to being planted in beds and borders within a cottage, kitchen, wildlife, or informal style garden.

Amend the soil with grit, sand, or compost to improve the soils drainage. Space companion plants at least 30cm (12in) apart from one another. If growing in a container, the pot should be at least 30cm (12in) wide and the same depth. Borage dislikes being transplanted so be sure to choose a suitable site for them to be planted in.

Leave Borage to self-seed after flowering. Harvest flowers and leaves as and when you wish to use them. They have a mild cucumber taste to them.
