Boltonia are best planted in a well-drained soil or loam, chalk, sand or clay within an acidic, alkaline or neutral PH balance. They are best positioned in an area that receives full sun if kept sheltered from intense midday heat. Bletilla are well suited to planting in flower beds and borders within cottage and informal gardens as well as wildflower meadows.

Amend soil with compost before planting to improve drainage.
Some varieties may require staking especially if positioned in exposed areas that are prone to high winds. You may wish to pinch back your plants so that they look bushier and more compact. Throughout active growth ensure soil is kept moist and well-watered, especially during periods of drought.
It is possible to propagate Boltonia by division in spring.
