Blechnum are best planted in either poorly drained or moist, well-drained soil or loam or clay within an acidic or neutral PH balance. They are best positioned in an area or part or full shade. Blechnum are well suited to flower beds and borders or used as underplanting for larger shrubs or trees.

Water thoroughly and deeply after planting and apply a layer of mulch to retain moisture levels and to suppress weeds.
Provide additional protection or move to a suitable spot during periods of extreme cold. If the trunk does appear to due back over the winter, leave in place as usually new growth will form from the old trunk.
It is possible to propagate Blechnum by division in spring.
