About Aubrieta

Aubrieta are mat-forming evergreen perennial plants with often variegated foliage and stunning four-petalled foliage displayed in vibrant shades of pink and purple during the spring. Aubrieta are best suited to banks and slopes or used as edging within courtyard, coastal, informal and rock gardens. You should expect to see Aubrieta grow to an approximate height of 10cm (4”) and a spread of 50cm (20”).

How to plant Aubrieta

Aubrieta are best planted in well-drained soil of sand, chalk and loam within an alkaline or neutral PH balance. Choose a site that has sheltered access to full sun and remove any weeds or debris. Dig a hole that is 2-3 inches wider and just as deep as the root ball. Amend the soil with compost to improve the drainage. Place your Aubrieta into position and gently backfill. Water thoroughly and deeply to settle the soil into place.

How to care for Aubrieta

Cut Aubrieta back hard once the flowering period is over as this will encourage a new bought of foliage. Provide plenty of water when Aubrieta are in full bloom, reducing the schedule significantly throughout the rest of the year.

How to propagate Aubrieta

It is possible to propagate Aubrieta by seed, softwood cuttings or semi-hardwood cuttings.
