Where to plant Astilbe


Astilbe are best planted in a moist, loam-based soil within an acidic, alkaline or neutral PH balance. They are best positioned in part or full shade. If planted in full sun they may burn. They can be grown in deep shade however they will not flower as much. Astilbe are well suited to shady borders and beds and are perfect for a bog garden as they prefer moist soil.

How to plant Astilbe


Dig a hole wide and deep enough to accommodate the size of your plant and place in the hole, spreading out the roots to encourage the roots to grow. Space companion plants at least 40cm (16in) apart. Water deeply and thoroughly after planting.

Resents being disturbed once established. Appreciates an annual spring mulch of well-rotted compost. Divide plants every 3-4 years to maintain vigour and flower quality once plants are established.
