About Argemone

Argemone are perennial or annual plants with upright stems and prickly, spiky thistle-like leaves. They have poppy-like flowers with red or yellow stamens. They are native to the Americas and Hawaii. They are well-suited to a cottage or wildlife gardening style and make a nice addition to a wildlife garden as the blooms are attractive to pollinators. You should expect to see your Argemone grow to an approximate height of 100cm (40in) and an approximate spread of 90cm (36in).

How to plant Argemone

Argemone are best planted in well-drained soil and positioned in an area of full sun.

How to care for Argemone

Argemone resents disturbance once established. Remove deadheads to prolong flowering or to prevent excessive self-seeding.

How to propagate Argemone

It is possible to propagate Argemone by seed sown in the spring.
