You may wish to amend the planting area with plenty of organic matter to improve drainage, mixing thoroughly. Dig a hole the same depth and triple the width of the root ball to accommodate the mature size of your shrub/tree and back fill, watering well.
Water regularly during active growth. Ensuring not to overwater or waterlog the planting area. You may wish to regularly apply organic fertiliser to encourage optimum growth. Lightly prune during late spring or early summer, ensuring you are not pruning back any forming fruit, as they tend to mature during the autumn months.
It is possible to propagate Arbutus by semi-ripe cuttings in late summer or seed own in autumn.
