Angelonia are better known as Angels Orchid and are a relative of the Snapdragon. Tall, upright spikes are studded with delicate and fascinating salvia-like flowers in beautiful colorations. This robust plant will showcase a divine display during summer and autumn providing elegant architecture and structure. They look delightful when planted at the back of a border or flower bed within a cottage or informal garden setting. You should expect to see your Angelonia grow to an approximate height and spread of 45-60cm (18-24”).
Angelonia are best planted in well-drained soil which should be amended with manure or compost and worked into the planting hole using a fork or shovel. Dig a hole as wide and as deep as the root ball and space plants approximately 30cm (12”) apart. Ensure that your plants are watered well to settle them into place. Angelonia are best positioned in an area in a sheltered position of full sun.
You should undertake a thorough watering schedule until your plants become better established or when the soil becomes dry. Fertilise monthly to retain a healthy structure and prolonged flowering period, taking care not to overdo it as this will increase the volume of foliage but decrease the number and abundance of flowers.
